Global Warming - Climate Change - Weather Forecasting are the leading hot topics in modern scientific research computing era. Both observation and climate/weather models produce TBs of data in a day.

How Python is used to help in

  • Extract / Subset data from large no of big size self describing model forecast out binary files
  • Visualizing in 1D, 2D, 3D & 4D
  • Statistical Computation and Validation
  • Parallel Processing
  • much more

I will be focusing on showcasing the following through slides

  • an intro about numpy.ma
  • meta data
  • statistical opertations
  • 2D Visualization
  • Parallel Processing
  • How did I save bunch of time in post processing of model outputs
  • How could I access 500 TBs of data produced by just one model in one year
  • How did I start my contribution
  • ...

Prerequisites:

I will be talking on both Python and Science. Even if you don't know much about both, still you can get some ideas about How well Python is used in Scientific Research Computations.

Can we have some links to your slides or a general structure, some thing that can be used to be put on the projector so audience can follow along.

Have you given any talks(including this one) before? Any experience of public speaking? It's not a requirement for doing the talk but would definitely help us gauge the experience level. We suggest going through the presentation least once in front of a small audience to get some experience if you have not already.
